“Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” ~ Alice in Wonderland
My grade three teacher, Miss Petley, once wrote in my report card that I “daydream from time-to-time.” Shamelessly, I admit that it still rings true, and I wouldn’t have it any other way because they inspire some of my best ideas. As an Executive Assistant in my past corporate life, I planned numerous events for Kellogg, BlackBerry, Sleeman Breweries and ATS Automation. There wasn’t anything I loved more than utilizing my creativity and organizational skills to pull together a beautiful and successful event, witnessing smiles and laughter from the enjoyment of people. A memorable event was always very satisfying to me, both personally and professionally.
When I lost my younger sister, Nicole in 2014 from Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, I persevered in the face of my grief but lost my sense of enjoyment from things that once brought me happiness, such as writing. My life became as clockwork as my 9-to-5 role. I was very grateful for my job as it was what I needed at the time, security and a very supportive work family. But one day, I started looking up at the sun again, and thought about the words my sister wrote to me in her goodbye letter: “Always remember that you deserve happiness.” She taught me in the most sobering of ways how fragile life can be. I started dabbling in the wedding industry after some nudging from my daughters, Amanda and Audrey, a videographer and photographer, respectively. It seemed like an overly fanciful idea at first, but I was quickly drawn to the idea of doing something I found incredibly fun and gratifying with the bonus of being able to collaborate with my girls. Fate through circumstance seemed to feed my growing desire to plan weddings and events full-time. I obtained my WPICC certification from the Wedding Planners’ Institute of Canada, and like my ‘Alice’ inspiration, I decided to follow the White Rabbit.
Thank you for taking the time to read my About Me page. I would welcome the opportunity to help bring your wedding or event vision to life.
Happily living in Kelowna, British Columbia with my daughters and ridiculously affectionate cats, Franny & Salem.
